The WSSO board is excited to bring back the School Security Officer of the Year and School Resource Officer of the Year awards. We know the last four years have been challenging for school safety and law enforcement. It is time to celebrate the incredible work our School Security Officers and School Resources Officers are doing each day for the students of Washington State.
If you have an SSO and/or SRO in mind that would embody this award, we are asking the school or law enforcement administrator to please complete the nomination form.

- Throughout this school year how has the nominee embody the HB 1216/1214 definition of an SSO/SRO? (Development of positive mentoring relationships with students)
- What positive tangible impacts have they made on the student population? Provide 2 examples.
- What positive impacts have they had on staff? Provide 2 examples.
- Please give an example of how the nominee(s) have gone above and beyond in their prescribed duties.
- How have they enhanced campus safety.
- How have they supported improving campus culture.
- Community outreach they have done.
- The deadline for the nomination form to be submitted is by 5:00 PM on June 9, 2023.
- All nominations will be reviewed by the awards committee.
- The award committee is comprised of:
- WSSO Vice President
- WSSO Secretary
- WSSO at Large Member
- The awards committee will score each nomination based on a scoring rubric.
- The top scoring nomination will be selected as the awards winner.
- All nominees will receive a certificate.
- The SSO and SRO of the year will be awarded a plaque at the conference.
